Noida Gang Ran Fake Police Bureau to Scam NRIs and OCIs

On August 10, 2025, Gautam Budh Nagar police uncovered a fraud racket operating from a rented house in Noida’s Sector 70. To carry out the scheme, a group of six men had set up a fake office called the International Police & Crime Investigation Bureau. Furthermore, they posed as government investigators using counterfeit logos, uniforms, IDs, and even seals to impersonate agencies like the CBI and Interpol. In doing so, they aimed to extort money from non-resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) by convincing them they were under legal scrutiny.
Elaborate Scheme to Create Fear and Extract Money
Investigators judged the scheme as alarmingly calculated. Victims received video calls from the fake bureau, complete with forged summons and court orders. Moreover, the scammers claimed the victims were facing serious charges and needed to deposit money into a “CBI supervision account” for clearance. Afterward, the funds were routed via hawala networks and overseas accounts. The ruse included a fictitious organization called the National Bureau of Social Investigation and Social Justice, which added further legitimacy to the deception.
Brain Behind the Scam: Former Politician with Political Reach
Police identified the ring’s architects as Bibhas Chandra Adhikari, a former TMC leader from West Bengal, and his son Arghya Adhikari. Adhikari has a history of involvement in scams, including education-related corruption cases. They controlled two front organizations, the International Police & Crime Investigation Bureau and the National Bureau of Social Investigation and Social Justice, to ensnare victims. The scam’s structure cleverly exploited political ties, legitimized them with forged documents, and targeted lawful communities abroad.
Police raided the premises, seizing a trove of fake IDs, embossed letterheads bearing government logos, a swanky website, and printed materials from multiple fake ministries. They discovered how deeply the fraud attempted to embed itself in public trust by mimicking legal forms, including Interpol insignia and ministry seals. The accused confessed under questioning, and authorities expanded the investigation to small-time informants and handlers coordinating the transfers overseas.
