India Slams Chinese State Media Over Disinformation on ‘Operation Sindoor’

India has slammed Chinese state media Global Times for spreading disinformation

Targeted Operation Follows Pahalgam Terror Attack

India launched Operation Sindoor in direct response to a deadly terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which targeted a convoy of Hindu pilgrims, left 26 people dead, including women and children. The Indian military, citing actionable intelligence, conducted strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These camps were linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Chinese Media Accused of Misreporting

Soon after the operation, Chinese state media, especially the Global Times, published reports accusing India of aggression. These reports claimed that the strikes resulted in civilian casualties and violated international law. The Indian government swiftly rejected these narratives, labeling them as deliberate disinformation and stressing that the operation was surgical and limited to terror targets.

India Issues Stern Warning

In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, India condemned the spread of “baseless and sensationalized” reports by Chinese media. The ministry urged media houses to “verify facts before publishing” and warned against acting as vehicles for misinformation campaigns. It emphasized that India had exercised restraint and operated within the bounds of international law in its response to terrorism.

Pattern of Disinformation Identified

This is not the first instance of Chinese state media promoting questionable narratives about India. Over the past few years, India has repeatedly flagged concerns over fake news, AI-generated content, and manipulated imagery used to influence public perception on sensitive geopolitical issues. Analysts note a consistent pattern aimed at undermining India’s diplomatic and security interests in the region.

India Calls for Global Media Responsibility

India has called on international media outlets to exercise caution when sourcing news from state-backed platforms known for spreading propaganda. It has also emphasized the importance of global cooperation in identifying and countering disinformation, particularly when it concerns matters of national and regional security.

Conclusion: Firm Stand Against Media Manipulation

As India continues to deal with the dual challenges of terrorism and geopolitical posturing, the government has made it clear that it will not allow misinformation to dictate the global narrative. Operation Sindoor, according to Indian officials, was a legitimate and necessary response to terrorism, and no amount of media distortion will diminish its purpose or precision.
