In the Silence of Night, India Strikes Pakistan: ‘Operation Sindoor’ Targets Terrorist Networks

India strikes 9 terror camps in Pakistan and PoK in Operation Sindoor retaliation

New Delhi, May 7, 2025 : In response to the Pahalgam attack, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting nine terror camps across Pakistan and PoK on May 7, 2025. Named by PM Modi, the operation symbolizes sindoor, the red powder worn by married Hindu women. Sindoor symbolizes marital commitment and, in this context, the widows left by the Pahalgam attack.

The Pahalgam Terror Attack: A Tragic Loss

The April 22, 2025 Pahalgam attack targeted male tourists, killing 26, mostly Hindus. These tourists were specifically singled out, leaving several women widowed. India blames Pakistan-based terrorists for the attack, with ‘Operation Sindoor’ as retaliation.

Targets of Operation Sindoor

The operation saw the destruction of nine terror hubs across Pakistan and PoK, including several training camps and launchpads used by infamous terrorist groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The targeted sites include:

Dawalpura (PoK) – Jaish-e-Mohammed headquarters
Gulpur (PoK) – Jaish camp launchpad
Kotli (PoK) – Jaish training center
Baranala (PoK) – Terror infiltration route
Muzaffarabad (PoK) – Lashkar & Jaish camp
Muridke (Pakistan) – Lashkar-e-Taiba headquarters
Sawai Camp (PoK) – Jaish base
Sarjal (PoK) – Infiltration point for terrorists
Mehmuna, Sialkot (Pakistan) – Hizbul Mujahideen headquarters

The Indian military employed advanced weaponry, including Rafale jets equipped with SCALP missiles and AASM Hammer bombs, to conduct precise strikes on these locations. The operation lasted approximately 23 minutes and resulted in the neutralization of more than 70 terrorists, with over 60 others reportedly injured.

Pakistan’s Response: Retaliation and Escalation

In retaliation, Pakistan condemned India’s airstrikes, calling them an “act of war.” Pakistani officials claimed to have shot down five Indian aircraft, including Rafale and Su-30MKI jets, though India has only confirmed the loss of one aircraft due to a technical failure. Pakistan also initiated heavy cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), which led to the deaths of at least seven Indian civilians and injuries to 38 others. Additionally, Pakistan closed its airspace for 48 hours and declared a state of emergency in its Punjab province, citing power outages and the diversion of flights.

Symbolism Behind ‘Operation Sindoor’: A Tribute to the Widows

The name “Sindoor” is deeply symbolic. In Hindu culture, sindoor is a mark of a woman’s marital status, signifying the presence of her husband. Applied at the parting of the hair, sindoor symbolizes a woman’s marital commitment and bond with her husband. Following the Pahalgam attack, ‘Sindoor’ symbolizes the loss and grief of the widows left behind. It also signifies the nation’s resolve to stand against terrorism and defend its citizens.
Prime Minister Modi termed the operation a military strike and a tribute to the Pahalgam victims. He described it as a demonstration of India’s commitment to confronting terrorism and protecting its citizens.

International Reactions: Calls for Restraint

The international community has closely monitored the escalation between the two nuclear-armed nations. The United Nations has called for maximum restraint from both India and Pakistan to prevent further escalation. China and the UK have expressed concern over potential conflict, urging both nations to seek peace. The United States has similarly called for de-escalation and direct communication between India and Pakistan.

Domestic Measures in India: Increased Security and Diplomatic Actions

India has boosted security in major cities, including Delhi, and is conducting mock drills for potential escalation. The government suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, downgraded diplomatic ties, and withdrew military advisers.

Conclusion: A Defiant Message Against Terrorism

Operation Sindoor is a powerful response to the Pahalgam attack, highlighting India’s resolve to protect its people and fight terrorism. While tensions remain high, the international community continues to hope for a de-escalation of hostilities between the two nations.
