Sinners’ Director Ryan Coogler Teases ‘X-Files’ Reboot

After the release of his new film Sinners, with Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Coogler is already gearing up for his new project. He has teased the series reboot of X-files.

In 2023, series creator Chris Carter confirmed that he had discussed with Coogler regarding the potential revival of the supernatural detective drama. It features David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

“I’ve been excited about that for a long time and I’m fired up to get back to it,” Coogler said during a recent interview with Last Podcast on the Left. “Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f**king scary.”

When asked if he’d spoken with Gillian Anderson, Coogler replied, “She’s incredible and fingers crossed there… We’re going to try to make something really great, bro, and make something for the real X-Files fans and maybe find some new ones.”

On an appearance in the Today show in April 2024, Anderson said she was open to returning as Scully for the reboot.

“Now, Ryan Coogler, who is the director of Black Panther – brilliant, brilliant director – has approached Chris Carter to say that he wants to do a take on it, and I cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen,” she stated.

However, the situation is the opposite with her co-star Duchovny. He told ScreenRant last year, “I don’t really have any thoughts on it. It seems to be a whole separate project. I wish them luck.”

The X-Files, a television series originally produced by 20th Century Fox Television, premiered on Fox in 1993 and ran for nine consecutive seasons until 2001.

Subsequently, the show was revived by Fox in 2016 and 2018. The revival concept is currently being developed by Ryan Coogler under his overall agreement with Walt Disney Television.
