Akhnoor, Jammu & Kashmir | April 11, 2025 — There was a display of unmatched bravery. Subedar Kuldeep Chand of the 9 Punjab Regiment made the ultimate sacrifice. He died in a fierce encounter with heavily armed militants. The battle took place along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector.
The clash occurred late Thursday night in the Keri-Battal region, a known infiltration route near the LoC. Subedar Chand, a seasoned Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), was leading from the front when the gunfight erupted. Despite being critically wounded, he defended his comrades. He continued this defense until he was evacuated to a nearby military hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries there.

Around midnight, Indian Army surveillance teams spotted suspicious movement near the LoC. Within minutes, a coordinated response was initiated. As the soldiers engaged the infiltrators, a heavy exchange of fire broke out. Subedar Kuldeep Chand took charge of the operation and led the counterattack with courage and precision.
