Helpline Launched for Reporting Fake Drugs

To encourage public participation, officials introduced a helpline for reporting counterfeit drugs. Callers can dial 033-2225-2213 or 033-2225-2214. This measure ensures citizens play a direct role in improving medicine safety.

States Urged to Help Track Origins of Fake Drugs

Because many seized medicines came from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Bengal officials have asked those states to cooperate. Together, they plan to locate and shut illegal production units. Interstate tracking will also help dismantle distribution chains.

Recent Raids Uncover Widespread Counterfeit Drug Networks

In March, a raid in Titagarh revealed huge stocks of fake drugs. State and central agencies acted together. In February, police seized fake medicines worth Rs 17 lakh in Howrah and arrested the godown owner. Kolkata police also busted a Rs 6.5 crore fake medicine racket involving 44 counterfeit products.
