Deadly Gunfight in Sukma Forest

A fierce encounter between security forces and Maoists took place in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on March 29, 2025. The gunfight happened in a dense forest under the Kerlapal police station area. Security forces not only killed 16 Maoists but also encountered strong resistance; meanwhile, two jawans sustained injuries during the operation. After the encounter, security forces immediately launched a combing operation in the area. Officials are searching for more Maoists who may have fled the scene. Weapons and other materials recovered from the site indicate the presence of a large Maoist group.

Government’s Stand on Naxalism

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to eliminating Maoist activities. The Union Home Minister recently assured that Naxalism would be eradicated by 2026. Security operations will continue until the insurgency is completely suppressed; moreover, authorities are intensifying efforts to dismantle Maoist networks.
