Three Maynaguri Siblings Land West Bengal Police Jobs Together

Kolkata: Financial hardship could not prevent three siblings from Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri district from achieving a remarkable milestone. Abinash Roy, Kamalesh Roy and Pompa Roy, children of daily-wage worker Jiten Roy, have been selected together for the post of constable in the West Bengal Police.

The three siblings are residents of Uttar Madhabdanga in Maynaguri. Their names appeared together in the merit list for the West Bengal Police constable recruitment, bringing an unexpected moment of celebration to a family that has long struggled with financial uncertainty.

Their journey to the police service was far from straightforward. Their father works as a daily-wage labourer, while their mother, Bhagabati Roy, has also worked hard to support the family. With limited and unpredictable income, continuing the education of four children was a considerable challenge.

Despite these difficulties, the siblings continued their studies and prepared for competitive examinations. Abinash completed his graduation in Geography from Maynaguri College in 2018 and subsequently pursued a master’s degree from North Bengal University. According to reports, he also gave private tuition to support his own education.

For Kamalesh, the circumstances were even more demanding. After completing higher secondary education in 2018, he began working as a mason to contribute to the family income. At the same time, he continued to pursue his studies and prepare for government recruitment examinations.

Pompa studied English Honours at Maynaguri College and also shared her brothers’ ambition of joining the police or central armed forces. The three siblings eventually appeared for the police recruitment examination and progressed through the selection process together.

After clearing the written examination, they prepared for the physical test at the Maynaguri football ground. They were subsequently called for the physical examination and all three successfully cleared that stage as well.

Their selection is particularly significant for the family because it represents the culmination of years of education and preparation despite limited financial resources. The siblings are expected to join the West Bengal Police next month, according to reports published on September 25.

Their father, Jiten Roy, said the family had never imagined that all three of his children would secure jobs in the same department at the same time. Their mother also expressed pride in the children’s achievement, recalling the difficulties the family had faced while raising and educating them.

The success has also drawn attention across Uttar Madhabdanga, where neighbours have celebrated the siblings’ achievement. Their story has resonated locally not simply because three members of one family were selected together, but because they reached the same goal while navigating significant financial constraints.

The achievement comes as West Bengal continues to recruit for various government positions. However, the selection of Abinash, Kamalesh and Pompa is linked specifically to the ongoing West Bengal Police constable recruitment process and should not be confused with reports about future police vacancies.

For the three siblings, the immediate milestone is now complete: after years of balancing education, work and competitive-examination preparation, they are set to begin their careers in the West Bengal Police together.
