CM Mamata Banerjee accuses BJP of trying to snatch voting rights, vows resistance

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP-led Centre of attempting to “snatch away the voting rights” of people through the ongoing revision of electoral rolls ahead of the assembly polls.

She made this statement while addressing an Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at Kolkata’s Red Road, labeling Prime Minister Narendra Modi the “biggest infiltrator”. Banerjee warned that any move to disenfranchise voters in the name of revision or verification of electoral rolls would be resisted by her party. She emphasized Bengal’s tradition of communal harmony, saying the state would not allow forces trying to polarize society to succeed.

The TMC alleges the Election Commission’s voter roll revision exercise has led to the deletion of genuine voters, especially in minority-dominated areas. In contrast, the BJP maintains that the exercise aims to remove duplicate and ineligible names.
