Babri Masjid Donations Surge in Murshidabad

Beldaga, Murshidabad: Former TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has attracted statewide attention. He commenced a donation campaign for a mosque modelled after the original Babri Masjid. The Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992. The foundation stone for the proposed structure was laid last Saturday. It is situated in the Rejinagar area of Beldanga, within Murshidabad district of West Bengal. There are also plans of a school and a hospital at the same complex within the project. Since the foundation ceremony, the atmosphere in Beldanga has been charged. Residents have congregated at the residence of Humayun Kabir in Beldanga, where the counting of donations commenced on Monday. By Monday evening, the amount had already exceeded three crore rupees. A number of donation boxes were still unopened. Volunteers involved in the process observed that contributions were flowing steadily. There were no signs of a decrease. To accommodate the rapid inflow of funds, Humayun Kabir placed eleven donation boxes at various locations in Beldanga. The boxes were all filled in time. The donations included notes of diverse denominationsโ€”from small change to โ‚น500 notesโ€”demonstrating widespread participation from local residents. The connection between Beldanga and the emotional appeal of the Babri Masjid has sparked public interest. The political context involving Mamata Banerjee also plays a significant role.
The counting process at the Beldanga residence has become a focal point for locals. Workers explained the high reaction by the symbolic meaning attached to Babri Masjid model. They also noted that although Humayun Kabir is no longer affiliated with the TMC, his presence in Murshidabad remains significant. Many supporters who previously aligned with the TMC openly highlighted how the appeal surrounding the Babri Masjid encouraged collective participation. During the counting, besides money, they found gold ornaments worth lakhs. In a number of boxes, small jewellery, tied in cloth, was discovered. There were so many notes. A specialised money-counting machine was needed. It was brought to the residence of Humayun Kabir in Beldanga to expedite the process.

Every box that is not opened is supposed to add more to the total. Workers present at the location believe the donations could exceed the already impressive figure of 3 Crore.

. Residents in Murshidabad have been discussing the sudden surge. They are also talking about the political undertone surrounding the project. This is particularly due to Humayun Kabirโ€™s prior expulsion from the TMC. However, the project has put him back in the limelight and provoked new debates on his role in the district. The association between Beldanga and the Babri Masjid has intensified public interest. Mamata Banerjee’s involvement is believed to add to the political dynamics. In numerous quarters, it has been observed that the project has rapidly become a symbolic debate in the district. Former TMC supporters are involved. The emotional appeal of reconstructing a Babri-style structure is strong. Together, these elements have rendered the donation drive a major topic of conversation.
The whole project has also led to speculation by the people on the political implications. The contributions are coming in steadily. The eleven boxes fill up quickly. The large attendance of the people in the residence of Humayun Kabir has all added to a buzzing atmosphere. As the counting continues, the unfolding narrative in Beldanga is attracting attention from across Bengal. Each passing day adds a new layer concerning the donations. The political backdrop is also important. The emotional appeal of the Babri Masjid is strong. The prospective trajectory of Humayun Kabir following his departure from the TMC is eagerly anticipated. For now, the initiative is among the most discussed developments in Murshidabad. It is driven entirely by public contributions. There is also a powerful cultural memory associated with the Babri Masjid.
