What will the weather be like in Bengal on Sunday?

Kolkata: The skies of Bengal have been filled with tears since the end of October due to the impact of Cyclone Manta. The incessant rains over the past few days have led to fears of landslides in the hilly areas of North Bengal, waterlogging in rivers and damage to farmers’ crops. This forecast is not only for today but also for the next few days, which will help normalise the daily life of the common man. The latest bulletin from the IMD’s Kolkata office said, “The remnants of Cyclone Manta are still active, but its impact is decreasing. However, exercise caution.”

Let’s talk about North Bengal first. There were yellow and orange alerts of heavy to very heavy rain in districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar till yesterday. There is a fear of flooding due to swelling of water in Teesta, Torsa, Raidak, Jaldhaka rivers. Farmers are worried about damage to tea gardens and paddy crops.

But as per today’s forecast, isolated light to moderate rains are likely in the region, especially in the hilly areas. The maximum temperature will be between 25-28 degrees Celsius and the minimum between 18-21 degrees Celsius. IMD Senior Scientist Manas Rana said, “Due to the weather observation in North Bengal, the rains may still continue, but the intensity will decrease.

“There is still a risk of landslides, so be careful on the hilly roads.” The local administration has already closed schools and colleges and opened relief camps. Surjit Das, a resident of Siliguri, says, “Houses and houses have been washed away by rain for the last week. At least today it is a relief to see mild weather, but who will compensate for the crop damage?” Meanwhile, the situation in South Bengal is more stable.

Areas like Kolkata, Howrah, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore may experience light rain or thundershower today, but most places will have partly cloudy skies and dry weather. The temperature will remain between a maximum of 30-32 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22-24 degrees Celsius, giving the first touch of winter.

The IMD forecast said, “The rainfall will decrease in South Bengal, but there may be sudden rains at places due to the humid atmosphere coming from the Bay of Bengal.” Kolkata has seen cloudy skies since morning, and residents of the southern city have come out to the markets. .The IMD’s overall forecast said that the rain spell is going on across East and Central India due to the remnants of Cyclone Manta and the influence of the depression in the Arabian Sea.

Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha are also under heavy rain alert. In Bengal, the weather will become more stable from Sunday, November 3, and will become completely dry by November 4. However, according to the monthly outlook for November, the state will have normal rainfall and temperatures, which is a welcome start to winter. IMD Director General Mridul Goel said, “We are issuing warnings by monitoring radar and satellite data. People are being asked to follow the alert app.”
