RGKar Case : Tragedy Strikes Alipore’s Vidyasagar Colony During Kali Puja: 11-Year-Old Girl Found Hanging, Mystery Deepens
Kolkata, October 21 : Festive celebrations of Kali Puja turned grim in Alipore’s Vidyasagar Colony after the hanging body of an 11-year-old girl was recovered from her own room. The deceased is reportedly the niece of Sanjay Roy, who was convicted in the RG Kar rape and murder case. The shocking incident has sparked widespread speculation over whether it was a case of suicide or something more sinister.
According to reports, the girl had been missing since Sunday night. Her family became suspicious when she failed to respond and kept her door locked for an unusually long time. After repeated calls went unanswered, family members broke open the door—only to find her hanging from a wooden structure of the cupboard. She was immediately rushed to SSKM Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police from Alipore Police Station have launched an investigation and registered an unnatural death case. Preliminary findings suggest a case of “partial hanging,” meaning the girl’s feet were touching the floor at the time. This detail has raised several questions among investigators and local residents alike—how could an 11-year-old manage to hang herself from a cupboard structure without assistance?
The post-mortem was conducted at SSKM Hospital on Monday. As per initial medical reports, the cause of death was ligature strangulation, and it was confirmed as an antemortem death—indicating the girl was alive when the ligature was applied.
However, the case has taken a complex turn due to its links with the RG Kar incident and the family’s history. The deceased girl was the daughter of Sanjay Roy’s elder sister. After her mother’s death—reported as a suicide—her father later married her maternal aunt, who then took care of the child.
The victim’s grandmother has refused to believe it was suicide. “She was only 11. It’s hard to believe she could do this herself,” she said. “After her mother’s death, the girl was kept away from us. I suspect something is not right.”
Locals described the child as cheerful and soft-spoken, making her sudden death even harder to comprehend. Police officials have confirmed that all angles are being investigated, and family members are being questioned. Investigators have stated that no possibility, including foul play, is being ruled out at this stage.
