Teen Student Stabbed to Death Inside Dakshineswar Metro, Security Under Fire

Kolkata , 12 September : A teenage student was fatally stabbed during a quarrel at Dakshineswar Metro Station on Friday afternoon, sending shivers among commuters and raising fresh concerns about passenger safety.
The victim, 17-year-old Monojit Yadav from Baranagar, studied at Bagbazar High School. According to his friends, Monojit regularly used the Metro on his way home. On Friday, however, an argument broke out among a group of students at the station. What began as a heated exchange quickly turned into violence when one of them allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked Monojit.
Eyewitnesses said four to five boys were involved in the quarrel. As the situation escalated, commuters watched in horror as the teenager collapsed, bleeding heavily. His friends rushed him to a hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The incident sparked panic at the busy Metro station, where the Railway Protection Force (RPF) cordoned off the area soon after. Though services on the Blue Line , Kolkata Metroโs oldest and busiest corridor , continued without disruption, many passengers expressed fear and anger over the breach of security.
โWhatโs the point of bag checks if someone can walk in with a knife?โ asked one commuter, reflecting the mood of many.
Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement. However, the stabbing has once again highlighted lapses in safety measures at Metro stations, where questions over security checks have been raised in recent months.
