Rajasthan Floods: Surwal Dam Overflow Creates Crater, Villages Submerged

Sawai Madhopur, Aug 25, 2025 — Heavy rains in Rajasthan have caused the Surwal Dam to overflow, forming a massive crater and triggering flooding across several villages, including Surwal, Dhanoli, Gogor, Jadavata, Shesha, and Machhipura. Hundreds of homes are submerged, and many residents are stranded on rooftops.

Infrastructure damage: Roads washed out; Lalsot-Kota Mega Highway submerged, accessible only by tractors and trolleys. Other areas in Tonk district, like Kalipaltan and Kafila Bazar, are waterlogged.

Relief operations: Hindered by impassable roads and shortage of food and drinking water. Authorities focus on drainage and rescue efforts.

Officials’ response: Rajasthan Minister Kirodi Lal Meena and MP Harish Chandra Meena inspected affected areas, promising compensation and prioritizing immediate relief.

Warnings:

IMD predicts continued heavy rainfall; residents advised to remain cautious.

Historic site impact:

Portion of Rambagh wall near Jwala Mata Temple collapsed; elephant rides at Amer Fort suspended for safety.
