MKB Foundation begins works on Shiv temple in Mumbai’s Juhu

Mumbai, August 14, 2025: The MKB Foundation has officially commenced construction of a grand Shiv temple in the coastal suburb of Juhu, marking a new chapter in the city’s cultural and spiritual landscape.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Wednesday morning, was attended by community leaders, spiritual gurus, and local residents. The event began with traditional rituals, including a Ganesh puja and chanting of Vedic mantras, seeking blessings for the successful completion of the project.

According to the foundation, the temple will feature intricate stone carvings, a towering shikhara (spire), and a spacious prayer hall that can accommodate over 500 devotees at a time. The architectural design aims to combine traditional Indian craftsmanship with modern structural safety standards.

Speaking at the ceremony, MKB Foundation’s Chairperson Meera Kulkarni Bhargava expressed her vision for the project:

> “This temple will not only be a place of worship but also a cultural hub, where people of all ages can connect with the values of devotion, peace, and unity.”

The project is estimated to be completed within two years. The foundation also announced plans to include a community hall, meditation center, and library within the temple complex, providing spiritual and educational services to the local community.

Local residents have welcomed the initiative, citing it as a positive step for preserving heritage in a rapidly modernizing neighborhood. Environmental safety measures, including rainwater harvesting and solar energy installation, will also be integrated into the project.

The MKB Foundation, known for its philanthropic work in education, healthcare, and heritage conservation, views the Shiv temple as part of its broader commitment to enriching Mumbai’s cultural heritage.
