Bessent Issues Direct Warning

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warns that Washington will raise tariffs on India if the upcoming Trump–Putin summit in Alaska fails to produce progress. He links the decision directly to the outcome of the high-level talks scheduled for August 15, 2025. Bessent says the US expects results that reduce tensions over Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Current Tariff Situation

India already faces a combined 50% tariff on certain exports to the US. This includes a 25% reciprocal tariff and an additional 25% penalty linked to India’s imports of Russian oil.
