Jaya Bachchan Pushes, Scolds Man Over Selfie Attempt at Delhi Event

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party MP and veteran actor Jaya Bachchan was seen shoving and reprimanding a man who tried to take a selfie with her, in a video now widely circulating on social media.

The incident took place at the gate of the Constitution Club in Delhi, where Ms Bachchan was engaged in conversation when the man approached and stood uncomfortably close to click a photo. She pushed him back and demanded, “What is this?”, prompting an immediate apology from the man.

Fellow MPs Misa Bharti and Priyanka Chaturvedi were also present, with Ms Bharti seen speaking to the man before entering the venue.

Jaya Bachchan has previously made headlines for similar run-ins, openly expressing her dislike for unsolicited photos and public intrusions. In April, she reacted sharply when an elderly fan approached her for a picture during actor Manoj Kumar’s prayer meet, calling out a man attempting to take a photo at what she deemed an inappropriate occasion.

In a 2022 episode of her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast What The Hell Navya?, Ms Bachchan explained her stance:

“I despise the people who interfere in your personal life… You’re intruding, interfering with my personal space when I’m walking somewhere, you’re taking my picture. Why? Am I not a human being?”

Known for her bluntness, the 77-year-old MP has often been trolled for such confrontations but maintains she is unfazed by criticism, insisting that her reaction is rooted in a demand for personal boundaries.
