IRS Officer Donation Reflects Deep Spiritual Faith

Bhaskar Rao, who retired as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, chose to dedicate his life’s savings and property to the Tirupati temple trust. His assets included a house valued at ₹3 crore and a cash contribution of ₹66 lakh.

The house, named Ananda Nilayam, is located in the residential area of Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad. Rao had clearly outlined in his will that the property and funds should be used only for religious and charitable purposes under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

The ₹66 lakh in cash donated by Bhaskar Rao has been allocated across six distinct TTD charitable trusts. According to officials from the temple board, the funds have been distributed as follows:

  • ₹36 lakh to the Annaprasadam Trust which provides free meals to devotees
  • ₹6 lakh each to the Veda Parirakshana, Vidyadana, Go Samrakshana, Sarva Sreyas, and SRIVANI Trusts

These trusts serve important roles. The Veda Parirakshana Trust helps preserve Vedic knowledge and tradition. The Vidyadana Trust supports underprivileged students through scholarships. The Go Samrakshana Trust promotes the welfare and protection of cows. The SRIVANI Trust funds temple construction in remote areas. Each of these reflects the values that Bhaskar Rao upheld throughout his life.

Legal Transfer Fulfills Income Tax Officer Donation Intent

The official handover of the house and cash occurred during a brief ceremony at Ranganayakula Mandapam in Tirumala. Three legal executors—M Devaraj Reddy, V Satyanarayana, and B Lokanath—represented Rao’s estate.

They handed over the documents to TTD’s Additional Executive Officer, Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary. TTD officials expressed deep gratitude for the donation and affirmed that the funds would be used exactly as per the late officer’s wishes.

The legal transfer completed all necessary steps for incorporating the property and cash into TTD’s assets. The trust confirmed that these assets would remain earmarked for religious and welfare projects only.

Income Tax Officer Donation Sets Example of Legacy Giving

Rao’s story is resonating with thousands across India. His dedication, even in death, to spiritual growth and social welfare sets a unique example. According to family members, Bhaskar Rao was known for his simple lifestyle and unshakable faith in Lord Venkateswara.

He frequently visited Tirupati during his lifetime and maintained a strong connection with temple traditions. His decision to contribute everything to the temple was not impulsive. Rather, it was a well-thought-out spiritual act.

TTD’s temple board emphasized that such donations empower their charitable operations while preserving age-old Indian values. They also encouraged others to consider such forms of philanthropy to support temple projects and community services.

A Devotional Legacy Remembered Through Income Tax Officer Donation

Bhaskar Rao may no longer be present, but his legacy will live on through the thousands who benefit from the services his donation enables. The Income Tax Officer Donation has not only strengthened the temple trust but has also reignited a broader conversation around legacy giving in India.

His gesture demonstrates how public servants can continue to serve society well beyond their retirement and even after their passing. By transforming his personal wealth into public good, Bhaskar Rao left behind not just a house or money—but a lifelong example of devotion and purpose.
