Modi 3.0 Marks First Year with Infrastructure Milestones, Farmer Aid and Welfare Boom

Prime Minister of India; Narendra Modi

Unprecedented Infrastructure Investment

Within his first year, the Modi administration approved approximately ₹15 lakh crore in projects. A standout initiative is the ₹76,200 crore Wadhavan Mega Port in Maharashtra, poised to become one of the world’s leading ports  . Additionally, the government allocated ₹3 lakh crore for roads, railways, ports, and air connectivity  . Notable projects include:

Priming connectivity: Linking 25,000 unconnected villages with 62,500 km of roads under PMGSY‑IV, backed by ₹49,000 crore  . High-speed corridors and expansions: Eight high-speed road projects spanning 936 km, eight new railway lines generating over 4.4 crore man-days of jobs, and metro extensions in Bengaluru, Pune, and Thane  . Aviation enhancements: Civil enclaves at Bagdogra and Bihta, upgrades to airports in Varanasi, new airstrips in Agatti and Minicoy, and the Shinkhun La tunnel linking Ladakh with Himachal Pradesh  .

Farmer Support and Agricultural Reform

Agriculture received focused attention through direct financial assistance and policy measures:

The 17th installment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi deposited ₹20,000 crore directly into the accounts of 9.3 crore farmers; total payouts now exceed ₹3 lakh crore  . Minimum Support Price for Kharif crops increased, benefiting approximately 12 crore farmers with an estimated ₹2 lakh crore gain  . The Agrisure fund was launched to support agricultural startups, alongside irrigation investments like the Polavaram project worth ₹12,100 crore  . Export policies adjusted—lifting minimum export prices on onions and basmati rice while increasing import duties on vegetable oils—to strengthen domestic farmers  .

Middle Class Relief and Welfare Schemes

Economic health and welfare for the middle class and marginalized groups were also prioritized:

No income tax up to ₹7 lakh; standard deductions raised to ₹75,000, and family pension exemptions to ₹25,000  . A unified pension scheme ensures retirement income at 50% of average basic salary after 25 years of service  . Housing initiatives under PM Awas Yojana approved 3 crore homes—1 crore in urban and 2 crore in rural areas  . Youth empowerment package worth ₹2 lakh crore for skill development, employment, and internships for 4.1 crore young individuals  . Women-focused schemes: 90 lakh self-help groups formed, Lakhpati Didis initiative recognized for women earning ₹1 lakh+ annually  .

Health, Education and Digital Reach

Expansion of essential services featured in the government’s roadmap:

Ayushman Bharat extended to senior citizens, offering free insurance of ₹5 lakh to about 4.5 crore families  . Addition of 75,000 medical seats and centralized National Medical Register to enhance healthcare access  . Major strides in digital infrastructure: UPI roll‑out, DigiLocker, Umang app, BharatNet coverage across 1.9 lakh gram panchayats, and deployment of CSCs (Common Service Centres)  .

Security, Technology and Strategic Reforms

The government also accelerated modernization and security efforts:

Cybersecurity initiatives such as Samanvay platform creation and training 5,000 cyber commandos  . A new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat (₹3,300 crore investment) aims to produce six million chips per day  . Peace agreements and regional stability efforts: Accord with Tripura rebels, expansion of Eklavya Model Residential Schools, and increased inclusivity for SC/ST/OBC & minorities  .

Outlook and Challenges Ahead

Modi 3.0’s first year combined massive infrastructure expansions with social welfare, agricultural resilience, and digital inclusion. As the term progresses, the focus will shift to efficient execution, addressing emerging fiscal constraints, and ensuring equitable delivery across rural and tribal regions.
