Bengaluru Rains Claim Two More Lives, Bringing Toll to Three

Torrential Rains Wreak Havoc Across the City
Heavy rainfall continues to cause widespread disruption in Bengaluru, claiming two more lives and raising the total death toll to three. The city is struggling to manage the impact of persistent showers, which have overwhelmed its drainage systems and led to dangerous conditions in several neighborhoods.
Senior Citizen Dies While Draining Cellar
One of the victims, 63-year-old Manmohan Kamath, was a resident of Madhuvan Apartments in NS Palya, located near BTM Layoutโs second stage. He died while trying to clear water from the basement of his residential building on Sunday evening. According to preliminary reports, authorities suspect that he may have been electrocuted during the process.
Young Boy Drowns in Stormwater Drain
In a separate incident, 12-year-old Dinesh lost his life after he slipped and fell into a flooded stormwater drain while playing near his home in East Bengaluru. Local residents and emergency responders launched a rescue effort, but the boy could not be saved in time.
Flooded Roads and Infrastructure Failures Persist
The incidents are part of a growing list of rain-related tragedies in Bengaluru, where poor urban infrastructure and clogged drains have left several parts of the city waterlogged. Traffic disruptions, flooded homes, and stalled vehicles have been widely reported.
The municipal authorities have deployed emergency teams to manage the situation and are urging residents to stay indoors, avoid flooded areas, and immediately report exposed electrical wiring or other hazards.
Community Aid and Government Response
Local residents and volunteer groups have mobilized to provide food, shelter, and assistance to those affected. In the meantime, the city administration has pledged to step up efforts to restore drainage and improve emergency preparedness.
While relief measures are ongoing, these incidents have intensified scrutiny of the cityโs preparedness for seasonal rainfall and the urgent need to upgrade its basic infrastructure.
