Cyberattack Claims Emerge After Pahalgam Attack

Following the deadly terrorist strike in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, a Pakistan-based hacker group calling itself “Pakistan Cyber Force” has claimed responsibility for cyberattacks on Indian defence-linked websites. The hackers alleged they infiltrated sensitive platforms such as the Military Engineer Services (MES) and the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses.

Claims of Access to Confidential Information

The group claimed it had accessed internal documents, usernames, and passwords of defence personnel and shared screenshots on social media to support their allegations. Although these claims are yet to be independently verified, they have raised alarms within India’s cybersecurity and intelligence agencies.

Official Denials and Increased Vigilance

Officials from the Manohar Parrikar Institute categorically denied any breach, stating that their systems remain secure and operational. Defence authorities acknowledged repeated attempts by foreign-based entities to breach military cyber infrastructure but stopped short of confirming any data theft.

In response to the claims, Indian defence agencies have initiated a comprehensive audit of digital systems and are implementing stronger cybersecurity protocols. Army officials have also ramped up surveillance of critical networks and instructed all departments to adhere to revised digital hygiene protocols.
