Former Mumbai Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau Sameer Wankhede has been charged with corruption by the Central Bureau of Investigation. In the case involving the alleged cocaine bust on the cruise liner Cordelia, which led to superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan being detained last year, Wankhede is accused of seeking Rs 25 crore as bribe. While some media sources assert that Wankhede asked for the money in exchange for not framing Aryan Khan, others contend that he asked the owners of the Cordelia ship for it.
As part of its inquiry, the CBI said on Friday that it had inspected Wankhede’s premises as well as 28 other residences in the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kanpur, and Ranchi that belonged to two other public employees and two other people.
