STAR WARS: A Multi-Generational Saga

Star wars is an all time favorite American epic space opera multimedia franchise created by George Lucas, which began with the eponymous 1977 film which quickly became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon. The franchise has been further expanded into several films and other media, including television series, video games, novels, comic books, theme park attractions and themed areas, comprising an all-encompassing fictional universe. Star Wars is one of the highest-grossing media franchise of all time.

All the nine films of the ‘Skywalker Saga’ were nominated for Academy Awards, with wins going to first two releases. Together with the theatrical live action “anthology” films Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018), the combined box office revenue of the films equated to over US$10 billion, which makes it the second highest grossing film franchise of all time.

The Mandalorian with Baby Yoda

Since 2019, “The Mandalorian” has expanded audiences knowledge of the “Star Wars” Universe with another story, introducing new characters and bringing back familiar faces from the franchise.

The Disney+ series stars Pedro Pascal as the titular character, a bounty hunter who travels through the outer reaches of the galaxy. Initially tasked to retrieve The Child(as we infamously know as “Baby Yoda”)for Imperial forces, the Mandalorian decides to protect the creature and goes on a quest for redemption.

Grogu, colloquially called Baby Yoda, became a fan favorite after the release of “The Mandalorian.” With Season 3’s premiere on March 1, there may be some lingering questions about the green creature.

Here’s what you need to know about Grogu, including how old he is, and if he and Yoda are the same.

How Old Is “Baby Yoda”?

Baby Yoda is 50 years old at the beginning of “The Mandalorian.” Though his age seems old, Grogu is still developmentally a child, and this is due to how slow his species matures.

He was born around the year 41 Before the Battle of Yavin (BBY). In the Star Wars timeline, the events of “The Mandalorian” take place about five years after “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” which is set in 4 After the Battle of Yavin (ABY). This would mean “The Mandalorian” is set in 9 ABY. If Grogu is 50 years old, then he would be born in 41 BBY.

Star Wars Leaks “Baby Yoda’s” Next Appearance:

Baby Yoda, whose official name was revealed to be Grogu in The Mandalorian Season 2, stole the hearts of fans when he made his first appearance in the premiere episode of the show. Grogu went on to be captured by Moff Gideon and the remnants of the Galactic Empire. As Grogu was being captured, Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett made his triumphant return to the Star Wars universe with Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand at his side, vowing to Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin that he would ensure Grogu’s safety from the Empire.

Season 2’s climactic ending saw Mark Hamill return to the franchise as a de-aged Luke Skywalker, taking the child with him to be trained. After killing Bib Fortuna in the post-credits scene of the final episode, Boba took a seat on the throne before the screen went black, revealing the title of his own long-awaited series, The Book of Boba Fett.

The show is currently set to premiere on Disney+ on December 29 and will follow Boba and Fennec as they rise through the ranks of Tatooine’s criminal underworld, cutting down anyone who opposes them. The series is also likely to reveal exactly how Boba escaped the grip of the Sarlaac in Return of the Jedi.

Along with an official trailer, as well as multiple short clips from the series, it has been confirmed that The Book of Boba Fett will be gifting viewers with nine episodes, one more than the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, which featured eight.

With the departure of Grogu in The Mandalorian, many fans have wondered when the adorable child will make it back on-screen. A recent leak suggests that it may be sooner than expected.

Where Will “Baby Yoda” Appear Next?

According to Star Wars news net, a credible source informed them that Grogu was seen on official merchandise worn by the crew working on The Book of Boba Fett. The outlet also included that a special type of merchandise is produced on projects for “special people,” and that this may be where Grogu was spotted. An official crew member t-shirt was found on Reddit earlier in 2021 that featured Grogu on the front, and Boba Fett in a shootout on the back.

The outlet went on to state that they had reached out to multiple sources on whether Grogu would actually make an appearance in the show, and the sources confirmed that he would be seen in a “quick glimpse.” It is unclear if his appearance will be in a flashback or if he will appear in the series in real-time.

“Baby Yoda’s” Quick Return

It was not a secret that Grogu would return to the Star Wars universe at some point. When he was introduced in Season 1 of The Mandalorian, he instantly became the number one priority for Disney and Lucasfilm when it came to marketing, appearing on clothing, cups and mugs, and even keychains.

Even though his departure from Din Djarin broke the hearts of many fans, he has always been expected to return. Most viewers theorized that he and Din would reunite at the end of The Mandalorian and that Disney could possibly even give him his own Disney+ series centered around Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy.

Hearing that Grogu could possibly make a quick appearance in The Book of Boba Fett is surprising, but it is definitely welcome. The million-dollar question is in what way he will appear. It wouldn’t make the most sense to feature him in a flashback, as none of the characters in the show have a strong attachment to him, but it also isn’t likely that he will appear in real-time, considering he is training with Luke at this point in the timeline.

Many fans believe that Din will appear in The Book of Boba Fett near the end of the season, seeing that the show is part of the interconnected universe that Lucasfilm is trying to build around The Mandalorian. The most likely way Grogu could appear is if Din does in fact meet back up with Boba and something happens to trigger a flashback from him, or causes him to reminisce on his time with the child.

Thankfully, The Book of Boba Fett is only a few weeks away, and viewers will be able to see not only whether the beloved baby Yoda will be coming back to Star Wars, but also in what capacity.
